It’s quite common to encounter hawkers on the streets, merchandising hand crafted objects, such us jewellery, vases or paintings. Using their craftsmanship skills is often a way for unemployed people with little if any income to increase their earnings. Unfortunately this activity is considered illegal and the legalisation surrounding it requires complex bureaucratic processes and fees, making it essentially inaccessible for them.
CityZEN proposes, on the one hand, a municipal service responsible for all legal, space, technical and curating issues, including the management of the merchants who use the service and the setting up the stalls. On the other hand, this project proposes a design of a versatile bench to unify the aesthetics and enable the beneficiaries to showcase their products.
